She left coherency back there on the corner of Elizabeth and George,
Underneath the streetlight.
Dazed, an imposter, frightened into thinking
That some semblance of truth might find her on a night like this.
Looking in, listening.
Spilling wine onto her dress as she stumbled from the table,
A murmured apology to the bowler hat and thickened bear-coat that swept in off the gutter.
Heady laughter follows the rings of smoke,
A grumble in the eaves, exclusive in its frequency
Heaves a sigh and trembles.
The lines grew longer.
She waited.
The lights grew stronger
She hesitated
Then waited.
